How it works
- 1
Set length and characters
Longer is stronger: 16 or more characters with all four sets is a good default.
- 2
Check the strength
Entropy in bits and a rough time to crack it by brute force.
- 3
Copy it
Generate as many as you like. Nothing is stored or sent anywhere.
Questions
- Is it safe to generate passwords online?
- This page creates them with crypto.getRandomValues in your browser and is blocked from making network requests, so the password never leaves your device. Store it in a password manager.
- How long should a password be?
- At least 12 characters; 16 or more for important accounts. Each extra character multiplies the work for an attacker far more than adding symbols does.
- What does "exclude ambiguous characters" do?
- Leaves out characters that look alike, such as I, l, 1, O and 0, which helps when a password has to be read or typed by hand.
